CoreWeave inks fresh $6.5B deal with OpenAI to power “Stargate” expansion

CoreWeave has signed a new contract with OpenAI worth up to $6.5 billion.

This is the third large transaction they’ve completed in 2025, totaling around $22.4 billion.

The deal strengthens support for OpenAI’s billion-dollar “Stargate” infrastructure initiative, which aims to scale up to 10 gigawatts of computing across data centers.

What this means to creators

The power behind AI applications is becoming increasingly centralised. As these infrastructure networks strengthen, the tools you rely on (for example, model APIs, editing helpers) become more reliant on them.

Performance and latency may improve, particularly in places near new data centres. This could make previously sluggish AI technologies more usable.

But be aware that central infrastructure frequently results in greater prices or tighter control over pricing, access, or conditions.

What this means to entrepreneurs

If your product or service is is dependent on large models, you’ll want to know who owns the pipes beneath them. Dependence on a single source creates risk.

Because the infrastructure arms race is heating up, margins in the stack above (apps, UX, and specialized tools) may contract unless you can identify niche defensibility.

Partnerships or co-location plans may be more important; partnering with the proper hardware or infrastructure provider might give you a competitive advantage.
