OpenAI gives creators more control (and a path to monetisation) in Sora

OpenAI today announced changes to its video‑generation app Sora, designed to lean more creator-friendly.

Creators and people who own the rights to their characters or content will now be able to stop others from using them without their permission. Meanwhile, OpenAI is experimenting with a revenue‑sharing model for those who opt in.

What this means for creators

In AI outputs, you finally have more say over how your work is used. There are fewer surprises, and you have more power.

If you allow your content into tools like Sora, there’s the possibility of monetising that use (if the revenue model works).

If you decide to opt in, you’ll need information, clear licencing, and ways to keep track of how the content is used.

What this means for entrepreneurs

This is a sign that AI tools need to protect intellectual property. This means that your models, platforms, or marketplaces also need to do the same.

There is a growing need for tools that help with AI content rights management, attribution, or income splitting.

The option of “opt in” or “opt out” becomes a competitive factor; platforms that make users use their services without being told may lose users’ trust or face backlash.
