AI News Today: Elon Musk has said that X’s algorithm will be completely AI-driven by November 2025, with big changes happening along the way.
Musk said in a post on September 19 that the platform will also make its feed algorithm open source every two weeks. This will let developers, researchers, and the public see changes almost in real time.
“The algorithm will be purely AI by November, with significant progress along the way. We will open source the algorithm every two weeks or so,” Musk wrote.
Musk’s AI assistant Grok will make the largest difference for users. By November or December at the latest, users will be able to change their feeds on the fly just by asking Grok.
X CEO Nikita Bier talked about a bigger plan that this change fits within. He said the idea is to assist users in getting past the “mainstream algorithm” and finding smaller communities and conversations.
The adjustment could be one of the most significant changes to X since Musk bought it. It could affect the way people use timelines and find content.
Musk’s statement had well over 10 million views in just a few hours, so people are really excited. But there are still challenges. For instance, to what extent will the AI be transparent? And what does it imply for problems like prejudice, false information, and content control to have a “purely AI” algorithm?
Undoubtedly, by the year’s end, people’s perceptions of X could significantly shift.
