On September 30, 2025, OpenAI announced the release of Sora 2, a mobile video software that converts text into short video snippets with audio and allows you to mix in your own material.
The app uses a swipe-feed interface similar to TikTok, with all videos generated by AI until users opt out of it.
The launch is initially limited to the U.S. and Canada.
Sora 2 follows on the heels of Meta’s “Vibes” feature and other short‑form AI video experiments, putting OpenAI deeper into creator territory.

What This Means for Creators
You are receiving a fresh canvas. Sora 2 is an AI-powered platform for quickly prototyping and publishing short video content.
Early adopters will gain a visible advantage. If you test, share, and experiment today, you may be able to ride the wave.
However, the rules will matter. How AI is ascribed, how likeness is used (you can “authorise and manage the use of your likeness”)—these restrictions will limit how adventurous you can be.
What this means for entrepreneurs
A new ecosystem has emerged. Tools required for Sora 2 include analytics, moderation, rights management, and remix infrastructure.
A new competitor to contend with. OpenAI is more than just a tool provider; it has entered the attention game.
Differentiation wins. If you develop supplementary services, you need to prioritise creator control, monetisation, trust, and integration.
